MY AMPLIFIERS

I've used and owned many amplifiers over the years Vox, Fender, Marshal, Laney, Carlsbora, Peavey, and Music man. More about this and why I changed to different amps later? My current amp line up comprises of three combo amps. A Marshall Vintage/Modern 50watt.  A Vox Valvetronix 15watt and  a Vox Valvetronix 60 watt.

MARSHALL VINTAGE MODERN

I have all ways loved the classic Marshall amp sounds from the mid 60s and 70s. The early Marshalls epitomized the British Blues/ R,n, B/ pop guitar sounds. Think Clapton with the  Blues Breakers or Cream. The Who, Mick Green from The Pirates, Jeff Beck, The Yard Birds,  and so on. All the great British Rock/ Blues Bands. Up until resently the only route to achieving those Holy Grail sounds was to find an original vintage Marshall or buy one of the excellent reissue heads or combos. But, what I wanted was a vintage style combo with some usable features like reverb and an effects loop. So, I checked out the Marshall Vintage/ Modern and I was knocked out by the amps authentic vintage sound. The amp has 100% mid 60s and 70s British Blues/ Rock tone. All those glorious sounds are there. Plus, there is a dynamic range feature which, by the press of a button, emulates the 'modded' sounds of the harder rock players from the seventies!! But, this amp is no throw back to the past. It can cover contemporary sounds as well. It is just a great amp. The amp is always surprising me with its dynamic range and now that the amp stage and speakers are wearing in a bit it is sounding more sweeter and even better. It also sounds good at low volume too which is ideal for practicing and recording in a small environment.

The amps output is 50watts and is all valve driven. Marshall re-introduced the KT66 valves which were a main contributer to the classic vintage Marshall sound. The speakers are two Celestion G12C  25watt Green Back reissues.  I'm still getting used to the amp but I have not been disappointed with the live sound. The clean sound has plenty of balls and the distortion sound can go from a hint of crunch right upto Gary Moore territory. This is the Marshall sound I always hankered for. I've not had time to record any sound demo's yet, but I will keep you posted!
